Developing a membership site can be a very lucrative as a home based business, and one of the best ways to develop a consistent, profitable income, and predictable cash flow.
Such an online business opportunity is attractive because it can create a long term residual income based upon ongoing paying memberships, usually on a monthly basis.
The concept is simple. Membership sites provide its subscribers specialized knowledge, in the form of fresh monthly, relevant content on a secure password protected area, for a particular niche the site has been developed for. Customers agree to pay a reasonable monthly or quarterly automatically deducted payment for this information, because of their interest in the subject.
To become very profitable, one doesn't necessarily need a huge membership customers base (although the more the better). Look at this way-if a membership site sells for only $30 a month and you have just 400 subscribers, this equates to $12,000 per month, or $144,000 per year in revenue.
Site Subject: Choosing a subject for a membership site may appear daunting, but it is really not as difficult as it may seem. It could be about something you are already involved with as a hobby, or that you have some expertise at, like gardening, or crafts. Just about any subject that fills a need for fresh information customers like to hear about and see on a regular basis.
Even if a topic is already covered by an existing membership site, this simply means there is a demand within that niche, and validates that people are willing to pay for this information through a membership. Also, ask yourself this-is there a magazine or association that serves a potential market? If so, then you know there is already a strong established market from which people, and your potential customers, are interested in.
Content: The next important, really crucial step in building the membership site is finding a reliable source of fresh content. After all, the members must see a continued value in the contents to remain a loyal, long term customer, month after month, or else they will drop out. One of the fastest ways to acquire content is to buy private label rights, or standard resell rights. You can start your search by using ClickBank to find undervalued products, and then locating content sites using Google that may allow you to license and repurpose their content. Or you could hire an expert to create new content exclusively for you. Private label resell licenses can be acquired for less than $500. Non-product website content can be obtained for almost nothing.
Administrative Functions: While handling the administrative functions of this home-based business can be very time consuming to the owner of a membership site, many of these functions, such as automatic enrollment, billing, and cancellations can be automated, and handled by software programs available on the market. Recurring payment billing systems available include PayPal, 2Checkout, Clickbank, Authorize.net, and 1ShoppingCart.
Marketing: The next step is to market your site, and build up as large of a customer base as possible. In internet marketing, there are a multitude of traditional marketing options available, including SEO, Article Marketing, Viral Marketing (with e-books, reports, videos, etc.), social networking (Squidoo, My Space, tag and ping, etc.), and press releases, and many more.
However, the fastest method is to seek out and team up with JV (Joint Venture) partners, who agree to market the membership site to their established customer list. This is a win-win situation to both parties by agreeing to a pre-determined share of the profits generated through the sale of the site memberships. JV Partners can have extensive customer lists to which they promote their own products and other JV Partners products as well.

Are your goals based on reality? Odd question? Not really. You can't believe how many Internet marketers I talk to who tell me stuff like, "I'm going to make 7 figures a year after just my first year online." I then ask, "Is that your goal?" Their answer is yes. Well, it's a great goal to have. Nothing wrong with having them. As a matter of fact, without them, you're just fumbling in the dark. But are your goals based on reality? And if not, does it matter? Everybody is going to have their own opinion on this subject. I'm going to offer mine.I have a lot of respect for somebody who has big goals. When I first started online, I had a very small goal to start with...just make some money. For more details www.sell-using-the-web.com.I was out of work and hoping just to be able to show myself that it was possible to make a living online. Once I saw that it was, I then shot for bigger goals. I graduated from one level to the next and I did it very slowly. I am still doing that as I am writing this. The reason I believe this is a "better" way to go about it is simple. If you were to decide, right from the start, that you wanted to make a million dollars a year, and your first year you only made about $20,000, wouldn't you be at least a little disappointed? I know I would. But if you kept your goals modest, that $20,000 might look like a fortune to you.But there is another side to this and it's what I call the "reality" side. For more details www.inside-the-minds-of-winner.com.It's one thing to say you're going to make so much money marketing, but what's your plan for pulling it off? Have you mapped out the specs? Is your million dollar plan actually based in reality? Is it doable? Or are you just wishing? See, things just don't happen. YOU have to make them happen. Anybody can say, "I want to make a million dollars this year." But without a clear cut plan to back it up, it's not going to happen. There is nothing wrong with thinking "big" and certainly I am not trying to discourage anybody from doing that. Just understand that behind every big goal is a workable plan.

America, Great Britain, and whoever else may be reading this, it's time to wake up and enter the twenty-first century. The face of Internet marketing is changing hourly, and unless you keep up with it, you are going to be left hanging in the wind and squirming in the sand. In other words, you will be up the creek without a paddle or a boat. It is the hopes of this article that you will see what's out there and respond to the ever changing world of Internet marketing. So, how is this all going down? What's changing? What's the same, if anything? Well, a lot is the same. The basic principals of marketing don't change. You have to identify a target market, come up with a solution to a problem that they're having and then finally advertise that solution. How we advertise today, well, that's where things are changing very fast.Probably the biggest changes to Internet marketing today are social bookmarking sites and the use of some pretty sophisticated video.Social bookmarking is basically where you go to a site and make posts about your favorite sites. www.perpetual-traffic-generator.comYou say what you like about the site and then leave a link so that other people can check it out. While you have to be careful with how you use these new social bookmarking sites, they can be very effective if you play your cards right. As far as the video aspect goes, we now have sites on the Internet like YouTube, where you can upload your home videos for all the world to see. Come up with something interesting and you can get quite a bit of traffic to your site. The technology today makes it very easy to put together a video in no time flat. Then of course you have sites like MySpace. While you can't directly advertise on MySpace, you can build up quite a list of friends by simply putting up a site that is interesting. Many people have made decent livings using MySpace marketing. You just have to use your head. All this is not to say that the old ways of marketing don't still work. Even though many people feel that article marketing is the new "fad", the truth is, people have been writing articles to promote their businesses for a very long time. www.free-ad-system.com It just seems to be more in vogue now than ever thanks to Bum Marketing, which is a term coined by Travis Sago. Look it up if you're not sure what it is.

http://www.popups-generator.comhttp://www.split-test-profits.com

The point of all this is a simple one. If you want to keep up with what's going on, you need to get out there and read. Subscribe to advertising news letters and journals. If you don't do this, you'll end up waking up one day and asking people what all these new sites are and where they came from.

One of the mistakes that Internet marketers make is that they promote to everyone as if they are the same. This is one sure way to alienate your target market, regardless of who they are. By knowing who it is you're marketing to, you can then adjust your tactics to ones that are more suitable to that market. In this article, I am going to give you some examples of what I am talking about because nothing explains things better than examples. Hopefully, after reading these, you'll understand the importance of how you approach your target market.Let's say you're promoting mp3 downloads for hard rock or heavy metal. You're most likely going to be reaching kids or young adults at best. For more details www.website-convertion-secrets.com. You're not marketing to 50 and 60 year olds. So you have to approach these people as such, age wise. Also, you're dealing with a "hip" crowd, so the language you use better be in tune with the times. If you don't know the vocabulary of the genre, learn it, or you have no business promoting things in it. Running promotional campaigns as if you were promoting Mozart symphonies isn't going to cut it.What if you're marketing to the Internet marketing crowd itself? I'm talking about people who are looking to make money online, or even people who are already making money online. You're going to have to understand the mentality of these people. Many have been ripped off or burned in the past, so they are going to need guarantees. So when creating your sales page, you're going to have to stress these guarantees. This is something you probably don't have to do with the mp3 niche. These kids aren't looking for guarantees. They're just looking for the hottest music to listen to.Then of course there is the health niche. These people probably have some very serious problems. So they're not looking for hip talk. For more details www.squeeze-page-profits.com.They're looking for simple solutions to their health problems. You're going to want to focus on the benefits of whatever it is you're selling them. In this case, testimonials from others are critical. Your target market is going to want to see proof that other people have been helped by your methods. Each target market has to be approached a certain way. If you don't know how to do this, it's easy enough to learn. Just seek out other products and services that target these markets and see how they approach these people. Make notes of the tactics used. Eventually, you'll have a good understanding of how to approach these people yourself. You can then launch your own campaign in your chosen niche.

makes it very simple to get a decent video on YouTube in a matter of hours.

Ah, but what about the marketing part? That's the only part that requires some thought. The I am just amazed at the state of entertainment in our world. I remember as a kid, back in the 60s, the shows were really well done. Today...not so much. There is more stupidity in the world than I can shake a stick at. One only needs to turn on just about any reality TV show to see my point illustrated in spades. And guess what? This stuff SELLS. Yes folks...we are a world that loves stupidity. Okay, you're probably thinking what this has to do with Internet marketing. It has everything to do with it...thanks to video.

You may not be aware of this but YouTube is the fourth ranked site on the Internet according to Alexa. Heck, even I go there. For more details www.tube-traffic.com.I admit it. I'm hooked. Now, while I don't watch the stupid videos, if you take a look at some of the most popular ones, you'll find that many of them are really out there. It goes back to what I said at the start of this article...people love stupidity. Okay, so how can you use this fact to help your Internet marketing reach new heights?

Well, for starters, you have to enter the world of making videos. Now before you say that you don't know how or can't afford it, let me tell you something. It's easy. I mean it's VERY easy. And it's not expensive at all. I purchased my Mustek digital camera for about a hundred bucks at Radio Shack. With good light, it gives you a decent video quality wise.

As for ease of use, it doesn't get easier. Most digital cameras come with very simple to follow instructions. And editing your videos is also easy as well with software like Camtasia, which only costs a few hundred dollars. The download from camera to PC is a simple as plugging the camera into your USB port. From there you'll get all these menus pop up that a child could navigate through. For more details www.free-ad-system.com. And Camtasia key is taking your niche, whatever it is, and representing it in a humorous light. I did this with one video of mine where I taught my son Jerry, and of course the viewers as well, how to do article marketing. It was done in a humorous way that was also educational. The combination has led to quite a few views even with NO outside promotion. That's how big video is today.

So if you're not taking advantage of it, you're missing out on a huge segment of your target market.

When you can't think of another thing you could do to promote your site just remember this: There is always something else you can do to promote your site!

I am going to let readers in on a very big secret known only to select internet marketing experts before today. It is one of the most powerful, overlooked internet marketing methods for Web 2.0.

It all started back when Web 2.0 started. I quickly realized how beneficial it would be for my web presence to get on social sites and begin branding myself. While other internet marketers were glossing over Web 2.0 as a fad or as a useless tool for marketing, I was digging in and checking out what was behind the curtain.

The links I gained were invaluable. The traffic and search engine rankings I enjoy now are a direct result of diligent study and application of techniques I developed for a new internet marketing method called "social marketing."

Social marketing was proving to be an extremely important part of my overall marketing and branding for our properties.

Then one day it hit me. Why not use the same techniques on sites that mention one of my products, my blog, or any number of my sites?

I experimented with sending traffic and links to possible joint venture partners. They responded. They really responded!

I figured most professionals were as addicted to checking their stats every day as I was. So I sent key people a powerful message of traffic. When they logged in to see a big burst of traffic had occurred above their normal daily traffic, they back tracked where it came from and found my profiles on all the social sites I sent it from.

I began to get emails thanking me for this traffic and asking how I did it. They saw the sites that I was using to send them traffic, but they thought there was something magical about the way I did it and wanted to know the secret.

All of the sudden people who were paying no attention whatsoever to me were picking up the phone and emailing trying to figure out what I was up to and why I would send them traffic for free.

I wasn't sending them links and traffic for free exactly. I did it to get their attention. And once I had it and started telling them what I did to get it, they were all ears when it came to my products which teach people how to do the same.

I got every joint venture I wanted because of this tactic. No one ignores my emails anymore and I enjoy being able to get joint ventures or even totally free mails from some of the biggest names in the business. (Some of them even mailed about my products without affiliate links!)

So I went on to develop around this idea and came up with, in hindsight, was a monstrously brilliant idea: Why not "buzz" everyone who links to or mentions one of my sites or products?

Not to get their attention necessarily. But simply to improve their rankings and link popularity so that their links to me would increase in value!

To say that this has worked wonders for our companies is a gross understatement. Since you cannot trust that people who talk about you on their blogs or in social sites are any good at promoting themselves, I simply started buzzing every single page on the web that linked to one of my sites.

I know about every new mention of my name or my sites because I use Google Alerts. When someone writes a post with my name in it, I get an alert and the direct URL to that page.

With alerts set up for all your keywords (product names, your name, websites you own, or anything related to your business you want to track) you will be the third person on the web to know when something new has been put out there.

The first person is the person who wrote about you. The second is Google. The third is you!

So after I get an alert, I immediately check out the new content, wherever it is, and if it is buzz worthy, I apply social marketing tactics to that URL and get that page some serious attention.

Over time, no matter how bad others are at marketing their own sites, you can have a huge network of popular pages pointing to your domain, sending you traffic and increasing your rankings.

Don't blow off new content or blog posts simply because they have no page rank because they are brand new. Instead, make absolutely certain the entire niche knows about those pages and increase the value of them yourself far more rapidly than the website owners will themselves.

Side Effects: Everyone you buzz and make popular comes into your circle. You will notice an increase of repeat links and mentions by those people who have benefited from you buzzing them. Traffic is the #1 way to make friends online. Friends who will send you back exponentially more traffic collectively than you ever sent them.

Your site isn't the only thing you need to focus on when promoting on the web. You should promote every site on the web where your links are found!

Now you will never get stuck wondering what else you can do to promote your business online.

This is another one of those articles that is long overdue. The hypocrisy of marketers. It runs rampant in the Internet marketing community and it's starting to make me sick. We condemn others for doing things that some would say are less than righteous and then we turn around and do the same things or some that are even worse. The stone throwing in this industry is incredible. Let me give you a specific example.I recently wrote an article on article writing itself about being parrots, reporters and creators. The article was totally in my own words, though the concepts were certainly not original. There is very little in this world that is original. As marketers, we are well aware of this. I mean let's be honest, how many ways are there to tell somebody what Bum Marketing is? And yet, merely for writing an article on the above concepts, I was called many names that I dare not print here. For more details www.achieving-liftoffs.com.If you read the article and compare it to anything else written on the subject, you will see, beyond any doubt, that the concepts, while not created by myself, were expressed in my own words and in my own style. This is in essence, being a fair if not great reporter. Parroting a bit? Maybe. But certainly not outright theft. Otherwise we'd all be forced to write about our experiences in the bathroom because anything else would be off limits. And then how unique are bowel movements? You're probably wondering where all this is going. Well, here is where this is going. Before you get on your self righteous horse. throne, or whatever you want to call it, you better think long and hard about your own practices as a marketer. And I'm not just talking about your articles. I'm talking about the products you market and everything else about your business. For more details www.website-conversion-mastery.com.The snake oil that people sell (snake oil is not an original concept, so dare I even use the phrase?), some of it should be tossed out with yesterday's trash. Yet, under the rules of free trade, this garbage is allowed to exist. So much for fair.It is this hypocrisy that sometimes makes me ashamed to be an Internet marketer. No wonder we get such a bad rap. We're so busy beating up on each other that outsiders can't help but wonder if the dungeons under our homes aren't filled with corpses of the dead prospects we've butchered and mutilated with our products that don't do anything but line our pockets with cash.

With 86% (27 million) of the UK’s population visiting a search engine in Feb 2006(1) and 70% of internet users using a search engine to find a “local” service(1), the time is now to market your business online.

As the busy Christmas period is fast approaching, there is much preparation to be done by businesses for the annual surge in consumer spending. Pay Per Click advertising on search engine’s like Google, Yahoo & MSN are essential elements of this preparation. Retailers consistently rate search engine marketing as a primary online sales driver, and a fundamental part of the online marketing plan.

2006 CHRISTMAS SHOPPING STATISTICS(2)

• Christmas is the most significant event in the UK's retail calendar

• 60% of annual turnover between November and January

• Consumers spent £7.6 billion online in the 10-week run-up to Christmas

• Online sales soared close to £1 billion a week

• Each person will spend an average £390 on Christmas gifts, up 18% on 2005

Opening a Pay Per Click account is quick and easy, management of the account is the tricky bit. Consulting Internet Marketing specialists is recommended in order to have your adverts up and running in time for the winter spending.

If you already have your PPC campaigns up and running here are some quick tips:

1.) When possible, adjust the message throughout the season and be sure to coordinate the message with other promotions on your website. For example: offering a free gift with purchases, free delivery & shipping and Online “Sales” will help to draw more visitors to click on your advert.

2.) Adding seasonal keywords to match what potential customers will be searching for this time of year. For example if you sell aromatic candles online and your original keywords are: candle, scented candle, candle holder, waxed candle, floating candle, etc you should try adding keywords like: Christmas candle, snowflake candle, Santa candle, seasonal candle, gift candle, holly candles etc.

3.) Monitor your results for better targeting next year. It is imperative that you have a tracking system in place to monitor your response to the changes you have implemented. This will save you time and money in the following year.

4.) Research the Competition! Find out what your direct competition is doing! By typing in your keywords “candles” and hitting search you can see in an instant which adverts you are in direct competition with. Ie: "Online Christmas Candles" Try phrasing your ads with what the competition is leaving out. Keyword Research tools are free and readily available online. This will provide you with the exact words people are typing into search engines to conduct their search.

With consumers consulting online stores & walk in stores equally, search engine advertising is an affordable way to bring in a substantial chunk of seasonal cash, provided you know a little about what you are doing. PPC specialists can provide information to benefit your sales or offer management to create and operate your campaigns for you. Be quick, as the holiday season is rapidly approaching.

Whether you are into Internet Marketing as a business or not, somewhere along the line you have heard of affiliate marketing and affiliate programs. This type of marketing and these programs are forms of advertising on the Internet which provide a financial reward to affiliates for driving traffic to the advertiser in hopes of generating a sale.

Does this sound complicated? It really isn't as complicated as you may think. As an affiliate, you are guaranteed a specific amount of money or a flat percentage of every sale you generate. The advertiser pays you from a link you place on your website. This link is what generates the traffic to the advertiser and hopefully results in a sale or two.

Sounds pretty simple when it's written that way doesn't it? Well, affiliate marketing is not as easy as it sounds. At least not for the affiliate marketer.

Affiliate marketing like any online or offline business has it's good days and months as well as it's bad ones. As an affiliate marketer, you have to do more than just put a link on one or more websites. It takes time and effort on your part to be a successful affiliate marketer.

Personally, I love Affiliate marketing and you will too once you understand it. As an affiliate, you must really understand the products you are promoting. If you can't answer the questions of prospective customers, they surely won't purchase from you. They will search for another site that can provide them the answers they are seeking.

To be a successful affiliate marketer, you should have your own affiliate marketing program set up to provide you many additional streams of income. As an affiliate marketer, the reasons below should help you understand why this is one of the most lucrative forms of Internet advertising and owning your own online affiliate business is something you should strive for.

1. Affiliate Marketing Has Very Low Start Up Costs

One of the prime reasons many individuals do not start their own Internet Marketing business is because it is very expensive to start a new business. Having your own business online selling your products can be just as expensive as opening up a store on the corner of 1st and Main in Any City USA.

This is where Affiliate Marketing is good for you and for the online business owner. Most affiliate marketing programs can be started for almost zero dollars. You initial cost would be getting a website and paying monthly hosting fees. Those are your two high price items.

2. No Inventory Required

As an Affiliate Marketer, you don't generally have to purchase the products to promote them, you don't have to keep a running inventory or even deliver the product to the purchaser. That is all handled by the merchant you are promoting.

3. Leverage Your Affiliate Program For Unlimited Income

Unless you have your own business, your monthly income is basically derived from your JOB. You go to work you get paid. You don't work, you have no income. Pretty basic. With Affiliate Marketing, your affiliates can and do provide you a steady stream of income that allows you to focus on other areas of your business.

You initially set up your affiliate program, provide the text links, the banners and even email advertisements to help them promote your business and products. As more affiliates place your links on their sites, your traffic increases and so does your income.

4. Promote Your Business Worldwide

Affiliate marketing, unlike your basic brick and mortar store, can easily be promoted worldwide. The Internet is the perfect global market. Once you have provided all the tools to your affiliates and they each begin their promotions of your products and services, it's hard to tell where your next customer will come from. Exciting isn't it?

5. Virtually Zero Risk Involved

One of the primary reasons Affiliate Marketing is so popular is that anyone can become an affiliate and sell hundreds or even thousands of products with virtually zero risk of loosing their own money. For individuals that have a minimal advertising budget, affiliate marketing can be one of the most lucrative prospects. The return on investment is incredible.

6. 24 Hour Virtual Stores

One of the greatest things about having your own online business is that it never closes. When you put up your niche website, it is a 24 hour virtual store that anyone can access - even if it's 2:00 am. Your store is open to everyone 24 hours a day, regardless of their location in the world. Can it get any better than that?

Now, with all that said, as an affiliate marketer all of your efforts could be wasted if you don't have the right niche product and promote it to the right niche customer base. Spend a little extra time doing niche and product research before you begin promotion and you will make a lot more income when you begin promoting your new affiliate products.

Everybody has their top tips for whatever it is they're into. For me, it's Internet marketing. I've been doing this for almost five years and during that time I have discovered that there are certain things that are absolutely critical to successful Internet marketing. Without these three things, you have almost no chance for any real success. So if you want to discover my personal ABCs, keep reading. They are absolutely the top of MY list...and should be at the top of YOURS.A - Advertising. I have been telling this to marketers for years on end. Some get it, some don't. So let me give you the Readers Digest bottom line. You can have the greatest product in the world. It could even be a cure for cancer. If nobody knows about it, guess what? Nobody is going to see it. For more details www.podcasting-made-easy.com.And unless you advertise, nobody WILL know about it. Now, there are many forms of advertising online, but without a doubt the most effective forms are article marketing and forum participation. These mediums will get the word out faster than just about anything else. Advertise or perish.B - Business Plan. If you want to really take your Internet marketing to the next level, you must have a plan. Sure, you could wing it if you like. But trust me on this, winging it is going to make you nickels and dimes at best. Those who come up with a solid business plan are the ones who are the most successful. For more details www.squeeze-page-profits.com.What's a solid business plan? For starters, you need to map out what you plan to do from beginning all the way to the final step. That includes what you're going to create or promote, how you're going to promote it, how you're going to follow up and so on. There are experts in the area of developing a business plan. Find one. Make a plan. You'll thank me for doing it.C - Communication. Like it or not, this whole business comes down to communication. Your sales copy, your email ads, you autoresponder followups, even your support emails to and from customers. If you can't effectively communicate with people, you're going to have a very hard time selling to them. Developing killer writing skills does take time, but if you put in the effort, you'll find that it will reward you many times over.
